Canadian First: Companies Plan to Build a Province-Wide Electric Vehicle Charging Network in British Columbia

by Eboom Staff
Green.Switch Capital and Garage Juice Bar, LLC have partnered together to instate Canada's first province-wide electric vehicle (EV) charging station network in British Columbia.
Green.Switch, a subsidiary of Greenscape Capital Group Inc. (CVE:GRN), and Garage Juice Bar have formed this venture to fill a hole in the market: consumer demand for plug-in electric hybrid and electric vehicles is rising and auto manufacturers are beginning to ramp-up production of these automobiles, yet a reliable network of charging stations does not exist.
The British Columbia network will be financed completely through private funds. Green.Switch plans to place the charging stations on property owned or operated by existing Greenscape energy retrofit clients or other third-party locations. Green.Switch and The Juice Bar expect to have the first EV charging station set up by March, 2010, while the companies intend to have the entire network completed by February 2011.
As Ryan Skomorowski, CEO of Green.Switch explains, "Many of the major auto manufacturers are on track for electric vehicle productuion in the near term. There will be a growing demand for an easy and accessible network of EV charging stations, otherwise consumers will be limited to charging their electric vehicles at home."
